From repairing cars on the street to inheriting his father’s business to become the 2nd generation of Tam Pei Motor Repairing, the owner, Mr. Tam has been in the industry since the age of 13 or 14. The shop started business in the 1970s or 1980s, with business focus on repairing trucks.

The economy of Hong Kong was at its peak at that time, Sham Shui Po also became very prosperous. It is precisely the reason why Mr. Tam’s business entered its heyday. Mr. Tam recalled that golden period with 5 or 6 staff working in the shop. However, from the 1990s onwards, many industrial buildings were converted into warehouses. With a reducing flow of people, the car repairing industry started to decline. To support his livelihood, Mr. Tam advocates modernizing his repairing business. He incorporates new tools and methods for car repairing, hoping to enhance maintenance of different types of vehicles. In addition to trucks repairing, he also offers car repairing services to increase revenues.

Speaking of Sham Shui Po and Cheung Sha Wan, Mr. Tam said when his father first came to Hong Kong, he noticed there were more trucks in the area, so he decided to settle in Sham Shui Po. Mr. Tam grew up in the district and has a very close relationship with the neighborhood. He still remembers the good old days having fun in nearby mountains and reservoirs with his friends. Mr. Tam moved to Cheung Sha Wan recently but still he always belongs to Sham Shui Po.
