鄧氏是新界大族，各處有多所鄧氏宗祠，其中元朗厦村的鄧氏宗祠又名友恭堂，取兄友弟恭之意，於1750年落成。這是香港現存少數的清代三進兩院式建築，祠內懸掛起多塊功名牌匾以顯示祖先的顯赫事蹟。門額高掛「稅院流芳」匾額，紀念先輩曾娶宋室皇姑為妻，獲皇帝封為「稅院郡馬」的歷史。宗祠至今仍是族人祭祀和節慶活動場所。

建築群還包括於1920年代建成的禮賓樓和友恭學校。禮賓樓原是招待客人留宿的地方，仍保留着供奉文昌和武曲的神龕；本是鄉村私塾的友恭學校收生高峰時連部份祠堂位置也曾開闢作課室。

Grading: Declared Monument

The Tangs are one of the Five Great Clans in the New Territories. A number of ancestral halls of the family clan can be found around the region. The one in Ha Tsuen of Yuen Long, built in 1750, is known as Yau Kung Tong, a name that celebrates brotherly love and respect. It is one of the few remaining traditional buildings in Hong Kong with three halls and two internal courtyards — an architectural style commonly used in the Qing Dynasty. Inside the ancestral hall, a number of honorary plaques are displayed on the walls in recognition of the meritorious deeds of the ancestors. A plaque hung at the entrance of the hall commemorates the marriage between the princess of the Song Dynasty and an ancestor from the clan, who was granted the title “Royal Husband” by the Song emperor. To date, the hall remains a place for ancestral worship and ceremonial events.

Other structures in the historic compound include the Guesthouse and Yau Kung School, built in the 1920s. In the former — a place that provided accommodation to guests — an altar for worshipping the deities of literacy and martial valour has been preserved. The latter was built to provide education to children in the village. At its peak, the school had to use part of the ancestral hall as its classroom to seat all its students.
