Star Ferry
Tour / History of HK Harbour (issued
on 5 February 2007)
It is our
honour that the Star Ferry Co., Ltd had sponsored a Ferry Tour / History of Hong
Kong Harbour for 8 schools ( total 230 students ), namely The Hong Kong Sea
School, St Paul's Co-educational College, St Paul's College, King's College,
Holly Family Canossian School, St Stephen's Girls College, Yuen Long Catholic
Secondary School and Wah Yan College, on 3 February 2007.
Through
the outreaching activity and fieldwork study, students get better understand the
history and development of
Victoria
Harbour
. The tour departed from the Central Star Ferry Pier at 10:

.m., passing through Wan Chai, Hung Hum, Tsim Sha Tsui, West Kowloon Cultural
District, Stonecutter's
Island
and Kwai Chung Container Terminal. During the trip, Star
Ferry representatives explained the history of Star Ferry Company,
H.K.
Sea
School
Old Boy Association, Mr Luk Kwok Wah, Mr. She Chiu Kee briefed the participants
about history of Hong Kong Seamen and the history of
Hong Kong
Harbour
. Professor Cheung from Division
of Humanities of Hong Kong University of Science & Technology brief the
participants about the history of fisherman in
Hong Kong
. Mr. Alson Wong from the Stanley
Dragon Boat Association then share for the Hong Kong Dragon Boat tradition; and Mr.
Stephen Davies from Maritime
Museum talked about
Hong Kong
's Shipping History.
Teachers
and students know more the history & culture of our harbour. They also found
this tour is very useful for their history, liberal and geography studies.
